Looking for something creative that you can enjoy as a family? Join us for the Museum's Family Fun Days! Family Fun Days are fun and educational for young and old alike! Each month, we organize events including story times, games, and craft-making projects around a special theme. See what we have planned in the coming months!
NATIONAL TRAIN DAY CELEBRATION
Theme: National Train Day

Special Guests: Mangelly Accordionaires & Coastal Rail Buffs
All aboooooard! for the 16th annual National Train Day. The Augusta Museum of History invites families and friends to join us in celebrating Augusta's proud railroading heritage.
1:30 & 2:30: Storytelling on the Passenger Car
Take a seat on our passenger car and relive traveling by train. Our Conductor will tell train stories to the delight of one and all.
3:00PM: Train music by the Mangelly Accordionaires
The Mangelly Accordionaires will perform a special selection of train-related songs in the Museum's Rotunda at 3:00PM. Tap your feet or sing along to Take the A Train, I've Been Working on the Railroad, Chattanooga Choo Choo and more.
ONGOING THROUGHOUT THE DAY
Train Trivia Hunt for History - Visitors are invited to explore the Museum's permanent exhibits featuring Augusta railroad history, tools, and equipment including Steam Engine #302, the Southern Railway Passenger Car and Into the Interior: A History of Georgia Railroad and Banking Company. They can test their detective skills with a special Train Scavenger Hunt through the exhibits and take home a #302 Museum Trading Card to add to their collection.
Museum Collectible Trading Cards - Our special #302 Trading Card designed just for 2023 National Train Day participants will be available with each paid admission. Visitors can collect additional cards by completing various activities throughout the year including the Hunt for History Scavenger Hunts, Family Fun Day activities, and more. Museum Trading Cards are available at the Front Desk. Set 1: Augusta African Americans (10) Set 2: Women of Augusta (12).
Interactive Model Train Layout: Coastal Rail Buffs group will have a 4 x 8 HO scale model train layout set up in the Garden City Room throughout the event. Members of the group will be available to answer any questions.
Crafts: Train-oriented arts and crafts will be set up in the Activity Center all day.
