National Train Day is an annual event celebrating the anniversary of the driving of the golden spike in Promontory, Utah, marking the completion of the first transcontinental railroad in the United States in May 1869. The 2,000-mile engineering feat joined a nation and changed the world. These days, most of us complain about the trains delaying our journey about town. But Augusta trains used to be celebrated - prized and praised for bringing presidents, war heroes, baseball teams and Northern tourists to town. The Augusta Museum of History invites everyone to celebrate Augusta's train legacy on Sunday, May 14. Enjoy all the great exhibits of the museum, plus these special community connection activities: Storytelling, Crafts, Games, Augusta Trains Hunt for History & more! HO scale model train layout set up by the Coastal Rail Buffs. 1:30 & 2:30 PM - Storytelling on the Passenger Car - Take a seat on our passenger car and relive traveling by train. Conductor Joe will tell train stories to the delight of one and all. 3:00 PM - Museum Rotunda - Train Music with the Mangelly Accordionaires.
