In partnership with Westobou and the Jessye Norman School of the Arts, AMH will host a daylong, family-friendly celebration that features a rich lineup of fun and educational activities including a special screening of the documentary, The Steering Committee, followed by a Q&A and talk with Dr. Mallory Millender, Paine College Professor Emeritus. The film screening is free and open to the public.

ABOUT THE FILM:⁠
In 1960, a group of active students [from Paine College] in Augusta, Georgia formed a Steering Committee to stand-up against the masses for their beliefs of equality. Armed with nothing more than inspiration and hope, this fearless collective of students launched an impossible mission - their story remains untold, until now.⁠

The AMH Juneteenth Celebration 2022 is partially funded by the Wells Fargo Foundation.⁠

ABOUT THE FILM:⁠
Two Classes of 1968 is a coming of age documentary that meets at the intersection of school integration in the south & the rise of the Catholic church in the Black community under the shining lights of the Civil Rights Movement.

In addition to the film, we will host a brief Q&A session following each screening.⁠

ABOUT THE FILM:⁠
The special film screenings of Mark Albertin's Finding Home: A Journey Through Augusta's 20th Century will take place in the Museum Theater on the 2nd Floor. The film covers interviews conducted from 1999 to 2021. It parallels what was happening during director, Mark Albertin's grandmother's life from 1897 to 1960 and her hometown, Augusta.
