Behind the Scenes
2024 Dates: September 7th, 14th, and 21st
The Augusta Museum of History is responsible for a broad and diverse range of artifacts, representing many aspects of the rich history of the River Region.
In this program, AMH Registrar, Alena Rensch, will demonstrate how the Museum collects, catalogs, preserves, studies, cares for, and displays archival collections. The goal of this presentation is to demonstrate to visitors how historically important objects reach the Museum and how they are evaluated, prepared for display or stored.
All of the relevant considerations, such as pest infestation, temperature and relative humidity levels, light levels, and composition of storage materials will be explained. At the end, you'll understand how these processes are central to the Museum's mission of the preservation and interpretation of history and receive tips on taking care of their family treasures.
You'll also get a chance to view some of the many artifacts in our collections
